Characterizing Trace Metal Contamination and Partitioning in the Rivers and Sediments of Western Europe Watersheds

Adsorption and desorption processes occurring on suspended bed sediments were studied in two datasets from western Europe watersheds (Meuse Mosel). Copper zinc dissolved total concentrations, sediment mass grain sizes analyzed. Four classes of mineral particle size determined. Grain distribution had to be considered order assess the trace metal particulate phase water column. The partitioning coefficients metals between phases calculated. objective this study was improve description involved transportation fate river aquatic ecosystems. Useful data for future modelling, management contamination assessment provided. As it is confirmed by a literature review, copper calculated are reliable. knowledge related (e.g., coefficients) will allow us begin investigations into environmental modelling. This modelling consider new sorption better describe fates as well pressure–impact relationships.
